Basics of tlhIngan Hol
It's been 40 years, as of 2024, since Star Trek III: The Search for Spock was released. This was the first time people got to hear Marc Okrand's (Okrandian) Klingon.
There were two earlier sources - the Klingon spoken in 1979 in Star Trek: The Motion Picture by Mark Lenard, and the Pocket Books novel "The Final Reflection" by the late John M Ford, which gave us klingonaase terms such as klin zha, komerex zha and the mortal insult tokhe' straav willing slave.
But this was the first time we heard the Klingon we are familiar with: the Klingon of Qapla' and jol yIchu' and So'wI' yIchu'Ha' and qagh.
From this, it took little over a year for The Klingon Dictionary to come out - and that changed everything.
The Klingon Dictionary teaches you the basics. I recommend you get yourself a copy. Get them from World of Books, or from Simon & Schuster direct. Give them your money, not that damnable Quark wannabee running Amazon.
Here is where you can start - where this blog began.
A quick note, and a bit of a pep talk.
The letters of the Klingon alphabet.
(Audio) How each letter is pronounced.
(Audio) The sounds of Klingon.
(image) The pIqaD Klingon script.
Fun Fact: The Klingon language term for Klingon language is tlhIngan Hol.
In this blog, you have all the resources you'll need to learn about Klingon words, such as its nouns, verbs, adverbials, numbers, conjunctions, exclamations, and so on.
It's all juicy stuff, but there is ten years' worth of material to go through, so as I keep digging through the backdated articles, I will be putting them up here.
Qapla'!

DS9 trivia from IMDB - Part 2
- After production ended, and the sets were dismantled, the Defiant bridge set was declared "fold and hold" and placed in storage. It was re-dressed and used as the bridge of an alien cargo ship and a Klingon battlecruiser on Star Trek: Voyager (1995) and the bridge of the ECS Fortunate on Star Trek: Enterprise
- When the Nielsen ratings started to go down during the broadcasting of the third season, the studio pressed for radical ideas for the fourth season to increase the show's popularity again. Some of their suggestions included blowing up planet Bajor, or taking the action away from the station. They finally decided that the show needed a popular character from an earlier Star Trek series. Initially, the producers weren't too pleased, because they had set up a subplot within the Dominion War storyline where the Federation would be facing off against the Klingons, and were already having difficulties making it work. However, the studio decision turned out to be a blessing in disguise when someone suggested to introduce The Next Generation's Worf (Michael Dorn) to the cast as an intermediate between the Federation and the Klingons, which conveniently solved most of the script problems.
- The name "Deep Space Nine" originated from an early working title, and pre-dated the decision to set the series on a space station. Producers intended on coming up with a new title after the show was fully developed, but stayed with the name, feeling it had an intriguing quality to it.
- Malcolm McDowell, who had been in Star Trek: Generations (1994), once said he'd like to appear on this show, but only if his nephew, Alexander Siddig (Dr. Bashir), would direct the episode. Such a chance was offered in season five, episode eighteen, "Business as Usual", but never materialized due to scheduling conflicts.
- When Nana Visitor became pregnant, her condition was explained away in the show by having Kira become an emergency surrogate for Keiko O'Brien's baby. Astonishingly, Visitor was only absent for one episode (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Let He Who Is without Sin... (1996)) due to the birth of her son. She actually cut her maternity leave short, out of fear that a prolonged absence would cause the writers to significantly reduce her role in the rest of the series.
- Marc Alaimo was nicknamed "The Neck" on-set for his naturally long neck, which inspired the look of the Cardassian neck ridges.
- Despite being credited as a regular, Cirroc Lofton appeared in only eighty-five of the show's one hundred seventy-three episodes. Morn (Mark Allen Shepherd), the most frequent recurring character, appeared in ninety-two episodes. Curiously, Sheppard isn't credited with this total on DS9's cast listing.
- Jadzia Dax was originally supposed to have a forehead appliance as the Trill were first shown in Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Host (1991), but after a test, most people thought that Terry Farrell's face was much too beautiful to be partially covered by or with prostheses. Instead, she got to have spots on the side. They were drawn on personally by Michael Westmore each day, a process which initially took over an hour, but over time, this eventually was reduced to close to forty minutes. Westmore actually "signed" his work by adding two spots in the shape of an M and a W. From then on, all Trills were shown to be like this, rather than the version shown on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987).
- Amongst the actors to read for the role of Captain Sisko were Carl Weathers and Eriq La Salle. James Earl Jones and Tony Todd were offered the role but declined. Todd (who appeared as Worf's brother Kurn on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987)) made two appearances on this show; first as an elderly Jake Sisko in season four, episode three, "The Visitor", then as Kurn in season four, episode fifteen, "Sons of Mogh". He appeared in Star Trek: Voyager (1995) season four, episode sixteen, "Prey".
- Alexander Siddig originally auditioned to play the part of Sisko. Rick Berman thought that Siddig was too young for the part, and felt him to be a better fit to play Bashir instead.

Miraculous: Tales in the Opposite Universe (Inversed Personas AU): Chapter Two part 2
This story is a fanfiction (Not an official script for an episode of the TV show). Some characters result from Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir (original title: Miraculous: Les aventures de Ladybug et Chat Noir). It contains some original characters (OC) but they're fanon. All rights reserved to ZagToon.
Part one
The day dawns on Paris: It's a saturday. Marinette and Cerise come to the ship Liberty. By walking, they cross paths with Wayhem… and Adrien ! Adrien: "Marinette ?" Marinette: "Adrien ?!" At this moment, Marinette are Adrien are troubled. They looked lightly amazed at each other. A: "Is it really you ? But… how did you get here ?" M: "Same… Same question for you, A-Adrien ? About "here", is it possible you…" They run towards each other to embrace each other. A: "I'm glad you are fine. I see you again." M: "Me too, Adrien." Wayhem and Cerise simultaneously interpel them: "Do you two know each other ?" M and A: "Yes." The parallel teenagers both tell their lives in their homeworld to their two new friends. They both tell it all by avoiding to reveal their superhero's identities (interesting facts: Marinette doesn't mention the Alley Cat's identity she already knows; Wayhem is already known by the three other people as Rouge Chance since the loss of his earrings). W: "It would seem that Voyager the akuma didn't miss you two. With this Ladybug and this Cat Noir, you must be four." A (ironising): "That's the circumstance, Wayhem." There is a collective sarcastical laughing between the four.
Following the next minutes, they take the road at the ship Liberty, at the Seine river. Once arrived on place, Marinette and Adrien are slightly stupefacted: They see out the ship Liberty from this world is a rusted damaged wreck. M: "What the hell happened to the ship ? It's the Luka's and Juleka's home." C: "It was. But now, the twin siblings and their mom live with Bob Roth a.k.a. 'the greedy record' since five years. The mom is remarried to this guy." M: "Wait ! Have did you say: Bob Roth ?!" W: "Of course, girl. Your homeworld's friends hadn't certainly lived the same life as their counterparts. About the boat, according to TV medias, an accident would caused these destructions five years ago. Happily, there weren't any casualties. Sadly, the Couffaines hadn't any house anymore. Mr Roth had hebergated them with the price of Mrs Couffaine getting remarried with the man." An expression of dismay temporarly appears on Marinette's and Adrien's faces. Later, at the other end of the wreck, they spot a rally of teenagers. Marinette and Adrien recognize their friends among the group: Alya, Nino, Mylène, Ivan, Juleka, Rose, Marc, Nathaniel, Kim, Ondine, Max, Sabrina, Socqueline and… Alix and Luka ! And Chloé (as bonus but not really a friend in their initial world) ! Before coming to them, the two not yet lovers are interupted by Cerise. C: "Do you know these people ?" M: "Yes. They are our friends." C: "In your homeworld, I must admit it's true. But listen to me: You two come from another world. These people you can see are our friends for me and Wayhem. They know you too but they see your counterparts, your other selves. If you introduce yourselves to us all with Marinette's and Adrien's names while the others Marinette and Adrien come at the same place, they would be suspicious. They could believe you're some spies from Fathom or Lycène, you come for a conspiracy." A: "And how are we supposed to interact with them if we can't say our real identities ?" M: "Adrien, we haven't the choice if our friends' counterparts must trust us. We must find some others names for avoid create the confusion." A: "I follow you, Marinette." M : (to Cerise) "It's okay. I will take the identity of 'Germaine'. And Adrien… (to Adrien) What name do you choose ?" A: "My name will be… 'Anathase'." C (sighing): "Too old. (normal tone) Why not… ? 'Nathan'." M: "'Nathan' sounds like cute." A: "I agree with the alias of Nathan." W: "I hope you two will fit in very well with all of us. Good luck." A: "Thanks, you two."
The 'quartet' advances to the group and Cerise and Wayhem move to different ways while Marinette and Adrien watch around them. Suddenly, both Marinette and Adrien are amazed to see their 'friends' wear different clothings each others. Idem about their looks. But the most glaring detail that astound the two: They figured out each counterpart have a different personality compared to each initial friend they knew in their homeworld.

i still find it appalling...
even though vanquish is rated M and likely has "intense violence" and "blood and gore" descriptors(despite the gameplay admittedly being a lot like a PG-13 action movie), people are just gonna play the game, thinking "oh, this game has robots in it! it's likely gonna be like halo or TF2(other M-rated shooters that those gamers may be used to)!"
and then they see citizens from san francisco exploding in disturbing fashions in THE VERY FIRST CUTSCENE. even people above 17 should get PTSD from that.
and those who actually keep playing the game realize that the rest of the game isn't as bad as how it started out.
at least until they get to the ending, see the president appear on screen, and go "huh? why is president winters talking about the end of her presidency?". and then she blows her brains out in a manner that is horror movie coded.
and that scene wasn't even in the original script...
methinks i should call platinum games out for making this game that basically seduces the innocent with stylish action and cool tech and then impales said innocents' faces with 2 extremely graphic cutscenes. especially with game makers toolkit promoting vanquish and it's cool gameplay without disclosing how bad the game can be.
because i don't think there is any other work of media that makes me feel like i'm missing out on the salty spitoon, along with homestuck, SCP, gravity falls(and maybe also FNF).
because although i know about games like transformers: devastation, which retain a lot of vanquish's weapons(literally all of the weapons from vanquish are in there aside from the disc launcher and one of the machine guns) and mechanics(firing while sliding, ETC.), they also leave out things like firing at grenades to detonate them early, kicking off of walls to get to higher elevations, ETC. so it feels like i truly AM missing out on an incredible experience. no thanks to marc brown for covering poison in coats of cinnamon sugar.
on a side note, we all know how bad homestuck is, but i'm not sure invader zim can replace it adequately. it has quirky food-based humor like the early acts, quirky technology, and lots of shared tropes, but i am still not sure if this is a road worth taking. what with kids' eyes being ripped out, bugs exploding in clocks, freakish alien surgeries, and whatnot(note that i'm not complaining about the episode "dark harvest", where zim tries to absorb the organs of other kids, because that was basically just zim trying to remain undiscovered in an admittedly VERY WEIRD AND PERPLEXING MANNER. but yeah, edgy episode name). and, you have the fact that IZ only has one season...
as for plot stuffs, kingdom hearts and adventure time are potential candidates, but i am staying away from AT for obvious reasons(explanation: plugged in hates the show because it pretends to be a kids' show while having an adult-ish plot. and i agree).
more to be explained in a future post.

Crypto CTF 2023 Writeup (EN)
(日本語版: https://shiho-elliptic.tumblr.com/post/722392022714073088/crypto-ctf-2023-writeup-ja )
I participated to CryptoCTF 2023 as a team "ierae". we're placed at 13th (we completed all challenges, so the score is equal to 1st team's that).
My teammate's writeup: @ta1yak1_8926: https://hackmd.io/@taiyaki/BJbEomuF2
Solved by me
Bertrand (medium, 21 solves)
2nd solve.
We have an image file which is encoded the ciphertext. The encrypt function has been applied rotation to that, but rotation degree is only four patterns ($$90\times n\lbrack\deg\rbrack$$, $$n\in \mathbb{Z}$$) so we can enumerate the all cases. More, we can ignore sox because it used at image generation phase only.
The plaintext (= flag) and ciphertext corresponded byte-by-byte, hence this cipher can interpret as a transposition cipher. Further, It has a key-based sort process, but the key-length is only three bytes so we can enumerate all cases of that easily (It's only $$\lvert S _ 3\rvert = 3! = 6$$ patterns!)
I used the flag prefix CCTF{ as "known plaintext" for brute-force the key of that. the allover complexity is just $$256^3$$.

Insights (medium, 88 solves)
$$d$$ is uniquely determined from $$n$$ since d = next_prime(pow(n, 0.2919)). that's all.
Note: the difficulty of this challenge is "hard" at first. I thought "too easy for hard" at solved, but it was changed to "medium" later. lol
Solver:

Shevid (hard, 17 solves)
It's an instance of SIDH. We can apply Castryck-Decru attack. I wrote a script that used https://github.com/GiacomoPope/Castryck-Decru-SageMath and solved it.
Solver:

Barak (medium, 27 solves)
We have a Hessian curve. Hessian curve is birationally equivalent to Elliptic curve, so I transform given curve and points to corresponded Elliptic curve and the points on that. Marc Joye and Jean-Jacques Quisquater. 2001. Hessian Elliptic Curves and Side-Channel Attacks. was a good reference for me.
When transformed on the Elliptic curve, the base point $$P$$ holds $$\lvert P\rvert = 3083219685676632130193959041477461850061047352503612$$. Any its prime factor is smaller than $$2^{35}$$, therefore we can use Pohlig-Hellman attack to this ECDLP instance. In fact, I used ellog function of Pari/GP.
Nonetheless, We can't get the plaintext $$m$$ even solved ECDLP correctly. It caused by that holds $$m\lt \lvert P\rvert \lt p$$. so "actual solution" is formed "$$m = x _ 0 + n\lvert P\rvert$$" where $$x _ 0$$ is the solution of ECDLP and $$0\leq n\lt 25$$ ($$\because 24\lvert P\rvert \lt p \lt 25\lvert P\rvert$$).

Byeween (hard, 22 solves)
We have an ellitic curve $$E$$ and a point $$Q$$ on $$E$$. We need to compute ALL $$P\in E$$ that satisfies $$2P = Q$$ to get the flag.
In general, the two-division points of a point can compute by compute the roots of division polynomial for that. SageMath's division_points method1 uses that too. It can solve this challenge with fail a few times, because that can't compute the all solutions sometimes.
Solver:
https://gist.github.com/elliptic-shiho/deccae6523d5548086e237ee70f1ee42
Vinefruit (hard, 19 solves)
We need to collide the given hash function. the target hash function is defined by $$\mathrm{vinefruit} _ {p, o, m}(m) := f(p)$$, where $$(m _ i) _ {i = 1, \ldots, \ell}$$ is target message, $$(p, o, m)$$ is parameter, and $$f(x)$$ is
$$$ f(x) = ((o + m _ 1) x^\ell + m _ 2x^{\ell - 1} + \cdots + m _ \ell x) \bmod m. $$$
For simple, we fixed $$(p, o, m)$$ and omit that in below discussion.
Set $$\mathrm{vinefruit}(00^\ell)$$ as a target to collide. In this situation, the challenge can transform to "Compute a $$x$$ that satisfies $$\mathrm{vinefruit}(x) - \mathrm{vinefruit}(00^\ell)\equiv 0\pmod m$$" . In fact, we can reduce this challenge to an instance of Modular knapsack problem, so we can solve this challenge by LLL-reducing following lattice:
$$$ \begin{pmatrix} 1 & 0 & \cdots & 0 & 0& p\cr 0 & 1 & \cdots& 0 & 0 & p^2\cr 0 & \vdots & \ddots & \cdots & \vdots & \vdots\cr 0 & 0 & \cdots & 1 & 0 & p^{\ell - k}\cr 0 & 0 & \cdots & 0 & 1 & c \cr 0 & 0 & \cdots & 0 & 0 & -m\cr \end{pmatrix} $$$
where
$$$ c = ((o + m _ \ell)p^\ell + m _ {\ell - 1}p^{\ell - 1} + \cdots + m _ {\ell - k + 1}p^{\ell - k + 1} - \mathrm{vinefruit}(00^\ell)) \bmod m $$$
and choose $$m _ \ell, m _ {\ell - 1}, \ldots, m _ {\ell - k + 1}$$ randomly as an initial state. In actual code, I decorated(i.e. weighted) to the lattice but omitted. We can collide the hash function by a message constructed by a vector, that is LLL-reduced basis of the lattice and all element of that is an unsigned 8-bit integer (i.e. it is the 0 to 255).
However, this strategy is not effetive when large $$m$$ because the constraint "unsigned 8-bit integer" becomes too hard. I decide to ignore the case of $$m = 2^{128}$$ and precompute the cases of $$m = 2^{32}$$ and $$m = 2^{64}$$ (Note: $$m$$ is only these three cases).
In this challenge, $$m$$ is determined for every $$\ell\in\lbrace\,35, 34, \ldots, 17\,\rbrace$$ so the probability of "All $$m$$ does not equals to $$2^{128}$$" is $$(2/3)^{18} = 262144/387420489 = 1/(2^{10.52932\ldots}) \gt 1/1500$$. Hence we can solve that with about 1500-times reconnect.
Solver:
https://gist.github.com/elliptic-shiho/bc5cf7f519ad28f2369625ad49bd9089
After the comptetition:
This attack is a second-preimage attack. However collision attack is enough to solve this actually. In addition, vinefruit function can interpret as rolling hash, so we can attack that using any famous implementation. In this strategy, It use the Closest Vector Problem to solve that whereas I used the Shortest Vector Problem.
Solved with teammates
Risk (medium, 35 solves)
Prime factorization is done by @ta1yak1_89262. but he stucked to solve the RSA with $$\gcd(\varphi(N), e) = 10728$$. I solved that using the cannonical map $$\mathbb{Z} / pq\mathbb{Z}\hookrightarrow \mathbb{F} _ q$$ and solve $$x^6 - A \equiv 0\pmod q$$ by SageMath's roots() method.
Solver:
https://gist.github.com/elliptic-shiho/cfd56e9dd47c7f2041157ffb6bb7477c
Big (hard, 23 solves)
We know parameters $$a$$ and $$N = pq$$. Prime factorization is done by @ta1yak1_89263, I solved only after that.
For every bit $$b\in\lbrace\,0, 1\,\rbrace$$, Select $$\left(\frac{t}{N}\right) = 2b - 1$$ as randomly, and put $$c := t - a/t \bmod N$$. Since $$c \equiv (t^2 - a)/t\pmod N$$ so we have $$tc \equiv t^2 - a \pmod N \iff t^2 - tc - a \equiv 0\pmod N$$. all coefficients are known so we can solve that as an ordinary quadratic equation (over $$\mathbb{F} _ p$$ and $$\mathbb{F} _ q$$). CRT is useful.
If you interested in the theoretical details, see §4.1.1 Cocks' IBE ciphertexts in Anca-Maria Nica. 2020. Quadratic Residues and Applications in Cryptography. - https://profs.info.uaic.ro/~webdata/doctorate/NicaAncaMaria/Rezumat-En.pdf

Afterwords
It's been a while since I played CTF seriously, and I could get a good result. Feel Good Inc.
However It's taking longer than it did before to solve challenge. I wanna participate to CTF as much as possible in this year.

it will probably never get in posting shape, so here are some fun excerpts
"You going to the dance?" Layla asks. "I would rather shoot myself in the face," Marc says, realizing way too late that that is probably not a normal way to talk.
x
Someone's mother coughs loudly and says, "Leave room for Jesus, children." Layla glares. "This is a hate crime." Marc pulls out a prepared script and says, "Who's Jesus?"
x
Layla taps Wade's shoulder. "Hey, Wilson, meet us at the Harrel Park gazebo. Bring people you trust completely not to blab." "You trust me not to blab?" "I trust you to scheme." Wade beams. "She's a keeper, space case." "I know," Marc says.
x
"Are you all right?" Elias asks. No, she's not all right. "I just, I don't know what to do! I don't want to say the wrong thing, I don't… He seems very sweet, but my boyfriend disappeared in front of me, and I mean, are you, are you okay with your son randomly getting replaced by some English stranger?" "I'm not saying it's easy for either of us, but Steven's not a stranger to me. He's my son." That pulls her up short. "I just want to talk to him."
x
"Uh, Dad, can you come here? To Layla's? We had to call the police." "What? What happened?" "Something…ate the principal."
x
The ceiling creaks loudly, threatening to collapse. Venom manifests and jumps over Steven, who is. Well. There is a situation. The situation is apparently so evident that Marc comes back up to yell, "ARE YOU TURNED ON BY THE GOO MONSTER THAT ATE THE PRINCIPAL?!" at him. In their head, luckily. Steven's face is burning. It's just, well, that thing can make all sorts of shapes and sizes, and, it's big and strong and that tongue is— "STOP THINKING SO LOUDLY."
x
"Okay, I don't know how your species works, but we don't murder our dads here on Earth." Venom harrumphed in annoyance. Stupid. Then how will we make him stop making you sad? We don't like that.
x
Bucky coughed. "I said, what kind of aliens do you think would visit?" "Uh, I don't know." Eddie scratched his neck. Venom giggled. "Like, ones that...want to meet us, I guess." "That's so nice." "I guess I like to think by the time a species is, you know, advanced enough to come visit, they're also, like, chill, right?" You're painfully naive. I like that.
x
"I'm fine; I can think." "Oh yeah? Try standing up, baby boy." Peter stuck his tongue out but obeyed. "I can—oh shit." He staggered and fell back on the couch. "Okay. So I'm drunk. So fucking what. And stop calling me baby boy. 'm not a baby." He crawled toward Wade and stopped only inches from his face, commanding his gaze through bleary eyes. "I'm not a baby." Wade swallowed. "I know." "You wouldn't hit on me if I were a baby because that would be fucked up."
x
Bucky stared at the ceiling. Lying next to Steve on his bed was just. Just a terrible way of doing this. But. He was going to. "Steve. I'm gay." Steve sat up and looked down at him. "Thanks for telling me. For sharing your truth." "Oh my god, where did you read that?" "Uh. Scarleteen? I think."
I have this MCU high school au I kick around from time to time. it's fun. everyone's problems are high schoolified. Bucky's dealing with a bad foster father who is also the principal (Pierce), Wade has real cancer and no mutate experimentation so he has to get regular chemo, Peter's gf died in an accident unrelated to him, Steve is getting a painful growth spurt, Sam is taking psych and trying to woo Riley, Clint is adjusting to hearing aids, Marc is, against his will, collecting friends and, without his knowledge, developing a third alter, Steven's studying for the SATs, Layla is touring colleges and having the most exhausting boyfriend, Eddie is secretly trying to coexist with the obsessive alien that's taken up residence in his body...you know, normal high school stuff
